Incantations, lamentations, prophecies

Project Updates + Announcements 11/23

The flood is coming! Fortify the walls!

I have dreamt of a great pilgrimage. Hooded apostles shuffling along in a line stretching to the horizon, the rising waters shimmering in the distance. A great forest in motion, roots carrying each tree crawling across the land like a herd of gargantuan spiders.

I found a hidden place there, full of friendly faces; full of blades.

Hello and salutations dear reader, I’m glad you’re here. I have a few pieces coming out in the near future so I thought I might leave this here for anyone who stumbles through. If you found my work online or in print and are hungry for more, here’s what to keep an eye one in the future:

NEW PUBLICATIONS

  • Chinchilla Lit issue 1
    • “Freeform Jazz At The End Of Everything”, publication date TBA
  • Dawn Review issue 1
    • “Asleep At The Wheel”, “List Of Great Midwestern Sorrows”, publication on Dec. 1st

“WE HATE YOU”

I’ll include this here for now in lieu of a longer post down the line, but my big interactive fiction project, “WE HATE YOU”, is currently on pause until mid December. That may not be significant news given that I have provided very little info about it so far. I have big plans for the project, but my primary computer does not run Twine reliably, and now my backup laptop is coughing and sputtering. It’s just so sick! Because of this, I have to wait until I can afford a new one. However, I will be putting together a teaser for this project with concept art, world map, and character sketches in the very near future, so keep an eye out!

The project, in brief, will be a text-based RPG set in a low fantasy world. You will play as a ghoul, resurrected from the grave and bereft of purpose. Upon making your way to the big city, though, you encounter the one immutable truth of the universe: Life Comes At You Fast. You’ll need a job to make it big in high society, you’ll need connections. You’ve got to make a name for yourself! Explore the world, meet various kooky characters, and learn the dark truth about your resurrection. Maybe even become mayor? Or possibly even… God?

I’m still learning Twine, but I have the bones pretty well laid out – not to mention a decent amount of raw flesh. Wet, and dripping? Yes please! 5 minigames planned, 1 complete. Countless side quests planned. The game will have several endings, but I don’t want to get too ahead of myself here…

Other News!

In closing, I am very excited to announce that The Dawn Review has nominated me for a Pushcart Prize! I am incredibly grateful to their team, who have been working hard to put together their debut issue. They have chosen to nominate my piece “Asleep At The Wheel”, an honor that I never saw coming but am thrilled with nonetheless.

I’ll also announce here so that I can be held accountable to me word that I am in the final stages of putting together a chapbook. Working title “RUNE”, but that might change as all things do. Will include mostly or entirely never-before-seen work. More details to come.

Finally, I’ve set up a Ko-Fi. I’m not much for e-begging, but then again, I’m stuck writing SEO content to buy my daily wines, breads, cheeses, etc., which is not ideal. If you want to toss some dosh my way, I will humbly accept. If not, I will cry – but you’ll never know 🙂

That’s all from me. Stay weird, stay vigilant.
